The Pennello Berlin Rhinestone tunic worn backstage at a club

What to Wear to a Techno Party

Techno has its own dress code, and it isn't the one you'd wear to a house party. The floor is dark, the night is long and nobody is there to be looked at. Here's what works.

Black, but with texture

Black is the default for a reason: it disappears in the dark and lets the music be the point. What makes it yours is texture. Fishnet, mesh, tassels and rhinestones that only show up when the strobe or a phone flash hits them.

Dress for six hours, not for a photo

A techno night runs long. Pick pieces you can dance in without adjusting, and do the dance test at home first. If it rides up, slips or scratches, leave it for another night.

Boots, always

Chunky boots are the uniform. They're comfortable for hours, they handle a crowded floor and they ground a sheer or embellished look.

Keep accessories close

A harness, a chain belt or minimal silver jewellery. Skip anything that swings into the person next to you or snags on a strap.

Dress codes are dead

The only rule that matters is that you feel free. No one at the club is rating your outfit. Wear what lets you lose yourself in the music.
